Stephen began acting in amateur
theatre at the age of 13 in 1985, and has appeared in over 25
productions. He earned a Diploma in Drama from Auckland University and
has experience in all aspects of production, from acting to stage
management, from authoring to sound design, and from activating
lighting to assisting in wardrobe. |
| Just Another Day Winner, "Teenage Actors Category", 50th Anniversary PANZ Competition 2008. Dramatic Comedy, approx running time 1hr 20mins. Characters: Teachers - Male first year teacher, around mid-20s; male principal, around 50s; 1 female, around 40s. Students - speaking roles: 13 females, various ages; 15 males, various ages. Actors can double up on characters if necessary. Set: 2/3 of the stage being a classroom with desks, chairs, whiteboard, set on a diagonal with the front being closer to the audience; 1/3 being an office environment. Synopsis: A first year teacher struggles through professional and personal difficulties in order to get his secondary school classes through a single day. Themes: Difficulties with the Education system; Teenage issues such as possible pregnancy, domestic violence, relationships. |
Starting Over Highly Commended, 2002 PANZ Competition Dramatic Comedy, approx running time 1hr 20mins. Characters: 1 male, early to mid 30s 1 female, early to mid 20s Set: The living room of a flat/apartment, some cabinets, chairs and a sofa. Synopsis: A cynical man, living alone in an uptown apartment, accepts an optimistic young woman as a flatmate. They start off their ‘relationship’ with a general feeling of discomfort due to their huge array of differences. However, over a short period of time, after learning more about (and from) each other, they learn that they are both at significant turning points in their life. Themes: Starting over when your life comes to a crossroads; What is friendship; Religion vs Atheism; Suicide. |
