Diane Francis (nee Waterson) is originally from Taranaki, but has lived in Howick, Auckland, for many years. A speech and drama teacher, she has been involved with theatre in many capacities over the years. She has written many plays.
A Path of Thorns

A full-length drama, running time approximately 70 mins. 6 Males,
3 Females.

V.Highly Commended in the Playwrights Association of New Zealand competition 2005.

The story of two boys incarcerated in a Japanese POW camp during WWII.

Written in the style of Japanese Kabuki Theatre.

In Search of Kiwi Magic

A full-length play for children, running time approximately 90 mins.
7 Females, 7 Males, plus Chorus.

Two children and their pet kiwi travel into the NZ past on Gradpa's Magic Separator.  They find all kinds of NZ magic. 
Lots of songs - lyrics by Diane Francis, music by Andrew Glover (organ, piano).

Has been performed several times in East Auckland area.
Return to Orakei

Drama, 19 Scenes, approx running time 70 minutes.

Two male characters plus chorus and small parts.

A young Maori man from Orakei helps the Master Carver complete the carvings for the new marae, which will open the following day. The Master Carver tells the history of the Orakei people as the stories are brought to life.

Second place in Playwrights Association of NZ competition.

The Trader

3 Acts.  Drama.  Approx running time 90 mins. 
3 Females,
2 Males, variety of small parts.
Puppeteers for 4 giant puppets.


Survivors of a nuclear holocaust are visited by giant puppets who tell them about other NZ disasters.

Diasters include The Orpheus, Tarawera, Erebus, and the nuclear war.

Staged in Papakura and Ellerslie.
